Privacy Policy

Information we collect

• Account data: email address, authentication credentials, and (if you sign in with Google) your basic Google profile.
• Profile data: username, avatar, bio, country, age group, language, and currency preferences.
• Travel data: the cities you light, your check-ins, visit dates, proof images, and the coordinates attached to a check-in.
• Billing data: subscription status and customer/subscription identifiers from Stripe. We never store full card numbers.
• Usage data: device and log information used to keep the service secure and to prevent abuse.

How we use your information

• To operate core features: lighting cities, reviewing proof, scoring, leaderboards, badges, and challenges.
• To verify submissions and protect the integrity of the leaderboard (for example, detecting duplicate or forged proof).
• To process Pro subscriptions and provide billing support.
• To communicate important account, security, and service updates.
• To improve the product and keep it safe.

What you control

From your settings you can control whether your profile is public, and whether your age group, country, city list, and check-in dates are visible to others. You can edit your profile, change your preferences, and request deletion of your account at any time.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with service providers that help us operate LightTheMap — for example, Stripe (payments), our database and storage providers, and our map tile provider — and only as needed to deliver the service. Information you choose to make public (such as a public profile or a shared card) may be visible to anyone.

Data retention

We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data and proof images, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal, tax, or fraud-prevention obligations.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so we also encourage you to use a strong, unique password.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact privacy@lightthemap.com.

Children

LightTheMap is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children below that age.
